In 2004-ish, I went to SoulFest. SoulFest is, essentially Christian Woodstock. A terrible analogy, I know. I went with a friend and we spent the week sleeping in a tent and not showering, which disgusted everyone I told when I came back, but at the time, who bloody cared? I fell asleep every night cuddling a cat called "Oreo" (goodness knows what happened to that stuffed animal) and listening to MUTEmath's LP on my cd walkman.
We went to a lot of different concerts while there. Kristen, the friend I went with, lived and breathed music, even if I didn't. Some of the concerts were more exciting than others. I think hands-down the most impressive (and the most crowded) was TobyMac.
Keep in mind, I am a concert virgin. SoulFest and Triple Rainbow Awesome are the only music concerts I have been too, and both feature bands that very few people have heard of. But TobyMac interacted with the audience. I even danced (and by danced, I mean "jumped up and down and fist-pumped"...so awkward). There was a lightshow, and you could feel the bass beat with your heartbeat.
It's hard to describe an audio performance. It was fun. I felt the adrenaline rush, and for a person filled with thoughts and distractions, that is relatively rare. The heights of the performance flowed smoothly and appropriately with the songs. It was good. It was fun.
As a side story, a couple of the people guarding the bus told Kristen that if she gave them $20, they'd let her go in the bus and see TobyMac as he slept. Kinda creepy. We ran off giggling. Sometimes I wonder whether they were joking... or not.
